Santa's Little Helper Release Party!

Happy Monday to you!  We're so excited this week to be celebrating a little "Christmas in July" at Imaginisce

Welcome to the Release Party for "Santa's Little Helper"!

I have a few projects to share with you today, let's start off with a layout that I did using our official holiday photo from 2010.  We are really hoping for a better Santa experience in 2011, which was the prompt for my journaling card.  "All Done Santa, See You Next Year!":

I used my i-Rock and a variety of gems and of course that awesome flourish template!  These papers have the best patterns, I found it really quick to put my projects together.  On the top of the page I used some ball trim that I had in my stash.

The journaling card is from Maya Road and the mini alpha's are from My Little Shoebox.  They were so generous to send alpha stickers to our Design Team and I have been using them all the time!

My next project is a "Dear Santa" card that I created using my Cricut Expression and the Sentimentals Cricut cartridge to create the stamp card base.
I placed some black card stock behind the wavy lines and the sweet Santa image into the stamp cutout.  I thought this was such a cute shaped card!  Of course, I used my i-Top and a 28mm brad to embellish my gifts die-cut along with my i-Rock and assortment of gems.  You'll see my MLS min alpha's were used for the sentiment.

My final project(s) are a trio of Christmas ornaments that were created from a thrifty find.  Those are the best kind, no?  Michael's has these cute dollar chipboard albums in all kinds of shapes during the holidays.  Well I grabbed a few of the star ones because they transcend the holidays, but they really do make wonderful ornaments as well!

I used the larger Sizzix Tim Holtz accordion flower die, then a few Martha Stewart snowflake punches with some kraft cardstock.  The final stack of little punched stars finished this nicely.  Doing chipboard projects is a breeze with our d-Stress tool!  Don't you just love how it worked the edges of this ornament?  This one feels so classic to me.

This ornament was lovingly adorned with many glam rocks using my i-Rock.  I love the metal studs, they go on so fast and really add that perfect little spark.  I started with a Martha Stewart doily tag, inked it in some Antique Linen distress ink and it matched the paper perfectly.  The accordion flower was layered on it and topped off with Santa.

My final ornament I had some fun with my i-Top and the fun characters in the line.  Rudolph is just adorable!  I used some frosted lace stickles on my snowflakes and a few strategic gems.  I love the classic feel of these ornaments and am pretty excited to have a few already made for this year.  Our sons love to play with them, so chipboard covered ornaments are perfect for their ages.

Imaginisce Tools Used:

That's what I have to share with you for today.  I hope you enjoyed a little Christmas in July with me and be sure to stop on over to the Imaginisce Blog to see what the other Designers have created.  You'll want to be sure and leave a comment too!  They are giving away three collections to some lucky commenter's this week...  it could be YOU!

Quick Quotes: July Club Q Re-Do!

Happy Saturday to you!

I have a quick layout to share with you today, isn't that cool?  The July Club Q page kits have these beautiful papers called "Miss Morgan" in them and some have sentiments that are just perfect!  The bracket on here is from the Canvas Kit.
Here is a detail photo so you can see some of the dimension and those frosted flourishes!:
As I said, the Miss Morgan papers that come in the July kit are so versatile!  They really make creating your pages or projects virtually effortless!

I came across this photo and the colors in it were just perfect for this line! This is the baby of our family at around 5 months.  He wasn't really a big fan of bathtime at that age, but he loved being snuggled afterwards.  The photos that I got of him in the natural lighting of our living room turned out pretty good.

I started the page with some base cardstock in powder blue and lavender. The mixture of the light colors in with the rich tones gives the project a little boost.  I anchored the bottom of the page with the bracket, matched up the sentiment and then popped the Doily in and then mixed up a few of the colorful papers to layer at the top.

The butterflies were colored with my Powder Puff Chalk Inks, and then I added just a little stickles for some accent.  Super fast!  To finish things up, I added the frosted flourishes and the big green bling after accenting my butterflies with stickles to dry.

Ingredients:
Quick Quotes July Club Q Kit

Non-Kit Ingredients:
Cardstock:  Bazzill
Ranger Stickles: Waterfall and Stardust
Classic Butterfly Punch, Martha Stewart
Quick Quotes Frosted Flourishes
Quick Quotes Jewels, "Green and Yellow"
Quick Quotes Powder Puff Chalk Inks: Mixed Berry, Mocha Mama

Thanks so much for stopping on over and please stop on over to visit the Quick Quotes Blog.  There are some big and I mean super huge things happening soon over there!!!  You definitely will not want to miss out!

Just for Fun!

Every once in awhile I like to dig into a challenge or project just for the fun of it.  I hope that you're the same way!

I came across the current challenge for Little Yellow Bicycle and loved the fun sketch by Liz Qualman!  Check it out, what I loved..  multiple photos, but still lots of journaling space and room to play.  Perfect!  Plus, who doesn't totally dig that fun kite?!!!
Here comes the dilemma...  I didn't have any of the lines, but I do have some Twig that has been calling my name for over a couple of months!  I also found some of their Laundry Line and what do you know, it just blended together wonderfully!

This is my interpretation of the sketch.
These are photos of our oldest when he was six months old.  I really thought that tag with "Nurture" on it was just perfect for this mix of photos.  I left additional pocket space behind the photo to tuck away more journaling or a story as well.
I used a couple of Epiphany Crafts Vintage Settings buttons on here in white, and also the round and flower button 20's.  I put a round 14 epoxy in the center of my blue flower for dimension.  Extra details include some stickles on the leaves and in the bird's wing.  I added Glossy Accents to the floral petals and the birds beak and wing.  Some Basic Grey Bling-It rub-ons make an appearance here from my stash.  The trim here is from Little Yellow Bicycle's "Laundry Line".

This was really a fun page to put together!  Thank you to Liz Qualman and to Little Yellow Bicycle for the inspiration!!!

Have a super scrappity weekend!!!

July Club Q Re-Do and Chomas Creations!

Happy Saturday greetings to you!

I'm excited and a wee bit nervous to share my first ever mixed media canvas with you today!  The July Club Q kits are just beautiful and the moment I received them, I had a project in mind for the canvas and the papers.  Here are the page kits and project suggestions for July:

Here is a picture of the Canvas Kit for July and the gorgeous featured project:

Here is what I did with the canvas and some paper from the July Club Q page kits along with Chomas Creations glitter pens:
This project was so much fun, I really used a lot of my Powder Puff Chalk Inks in a variety of ways.  You'll also notice the adorable butterfly on the upper right that I used my Chomas Creations glitter pen to create.  The other mediums that were used for this project are Gesso, Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel and some foam paint brushs and regular detail paint brushes.

Some details for you to get an idea of the texture and dimension.  I used foam dots on the fussy cut birdcage and bird as well as my Chomas butterfly on top.  I used my Gesso to adhere the gorgeous square doily.  Isn't that so pretty?!!!  I just love the doily's in the kits!

Do you want to see a few play by play images?  Here is my initial base coat of the canvas.  I used my ink pads in various parts of the canvas to provide my base color palette.  I then used four small cups with water and dedicated brushes for each of the four colors.  Using very small amounts of the water, I color washed the areas into each other to blend.  I allowed it to dry and then added a coat of Gesso in clear with wide swirling swaths of my fattest paint brush.

The Gesso really toned down my colors so I did some more work (i.e. second coat!) on the base until I was happy and then used a very very light coat of more Gesso and let dry, again.  The next step was to use my wall spackle and the laser cut relief shapes of the butterflies from the kit.  I cut those apart.  I also had a flourish mask in my stash from Heidi Swapp that was perfect for this.

Here's what it looked like before it dried and my Chalk Inks, brushes and glitter found it.
I apologize for the work in progress photos, I was in the middle of this and my camera battery died, so I ended up using my phone.  Hopefully it helps to give you an idea.

Once dry, I used my silicone mat and pressed down all four ink colors in their own places and used a bit of water to provide my painting palette for the flourish and butterflies.  You don't want a lot of water because it might break the spackle compound down too much.  Once I had that completed, I created my Chomas butterfly while it dried.
It's very simple to use the Chomas pens in your Cricut but the effect is beyond simple I think you'll agree!  I love the way my butterfly turned out!!!  I went with white cardstock so I could show you how easy it is to use your Chalk Inks to make coordinating embellies.  The super cool thing is that I still have my laser cut butterflies from my kit to use on another project too!  : )  woo hoo!

Once it dried, I used a q-tip and my Beacon's glue to run along the top of the flourish gently and then I sprinkled my glitter onto it.  (I did the sprinkling outside so I could blow away the excess glitter.  lol!!!)

Finally, here's an image of the little bird soaring with the fun little Quick Quotes "Oh Lovely" rub-on behind it.  I cut the bird out, colored her a bit and gave her two coats of UTEE.  You can also see some of the painted detail on my fussy cut birdcage on the left.
Spread your wings, bare your soul, follow your heart and fly!

Techniques Used:

- Colored my background image using Powder Puff Chalk Inks, then with lightly damp paintbrush, blended colors together.
- Added layer of clear Gesso on top of first background so my spackle would have a base to adhere to.
- Using relief of butterfly laser cuts as a mask, along with my flourish mask, I added spackle with a putty knife to achieve my dimension.
- After drying, I used a detail paint brush and painted my butterflies and flourish as desired.
- Fussy cut the bird cage, then painted it with Powder Puff Chalk Inks to coordinate.
- Used Chomas Creations blue glitter pen on white cardstock to outline my top right butterfly. I used my Cricut Expression and Cricut Sentimentals Cartridge.  It was colored with our chalk inks, blending with some water to match and then I added two layers of UTEE to it for some shine.

Non Kit Items Used:
- Powder Puff Chalk Inks: Very Berry, Limeade, Purple Passion, Blue Hawaiian

Postage Stamp Mini

Greetings!

I'm so excited to share my stamp mini album with you that I created for my Guest Designer spot with Donna Salazar!  This is the coordinating album by Maya Road that fits into that little mailbox that I posted here earlier.  The paper line used for this project is "Antiquities" by Donna Salazar for GCD Studios.
Here's the cover:
The cover is using "Queens Bees" and was punched with a postage stamp border punch.  I included an Epiphany Crafts floral button 20 and an epoxy heart 14 on here.  There is a stamp and hanging from the binding chain is a key and metal charm with a round epoxy 14.  Love those Epiphany charms!!!

The flower is a scrunchy layererd up variety of all kinds of my scraps from the mailbox project.  There is a little River Mossy Smooch Spritz in there too.
Pages two and three, the left has an Epiphany Round button 20 and the right has a Floral button 20.  Another stamp in the upper right corner.  I'm a huge fan of crinkle seam binding and you'll see that here on a few pages.
Pages four and five.  I love that steam punk paper!  I layered a few punched flowers and created a floral button out of one of my stamps.  If you look closely it says Chicago, IL.  Page five's chandelier was accented with Sugar Shimmer Fairy Dust and it's just beautiful!
Pages six and seven.  I accented page six with three heart shaped buttons using Epiphany Crafts 14 hearts.  There is one more on page seven with a little Zva Creative bling.
Pages eight and nine.  I created a pocket for a few tags on page eight.  I've used a variety of the Epiphany buttons on here, the Round Button 20, Floral Button 20 and Epoxy Heart 14. On Page nine, I've created a library pocket and a tag.  I've trimmed it with a Round Button 20 and some Maya Road velvet ric-rak.

The grungy flower on page nine was created with my River Mossy Smooch Spritz and a few different flower dies, all scrunched up and a heart epoxy with compass directions for the center.
Pages ten and eleven.  Another library pocket and tag, and another button embellishment.  Page eleven is a fun slider pocket.  Here is what it looks like when it's closed:
The back cover:
One more little pocket with a tag.  I just love the added charm that these coordinating buttons from Epiphany Crafts added to this project.

Thank you so much for spending a moment here today with me!  Have a super creative day!!!
